Breakfast at Noosa

On the weekend, we again ventured out following the PT duo on another torturous adventure into the world of pain and physical endurance.  This time however, the wives were called on to chauffeur the guys to a drop off spot and meet them at the other end because it was a 10 kilometre run one way.  To be perfectly honest, I was pretty peeved about this because we had to be out of the van by 6.10am to affectuate the meeting and the run.  When one spends all week getting up at 6.30am to get things organised before school, one doesn't expect that these mornings suddenly become a sleep-in compared to the weekend rising times.  Steve organised and packed everything because of my lack of enthusiasm.  I grumbled and groaned about it but we headed off early on Saturday morning.  At least it was well and truly daylight by this time so I didn't feel as bad as I could have getting up in the dark.
We met our fellow early risers in Nambour where Steve noticed that the dreaded kayak was, again, on top of the car, which gave him chills.  We then drove for nearly an hour up the coast towards Sunrise Beach which is south of Noosa.  Once there, we dropped the two joggers off for their 10 kilometre run along the beach, up stairs, through Noosa National Park and on to Noosa itself.  When we visited Noosa soon after arriving on the Sunshine Coast, we parked near the exit to the Noosa National Park and there were masses of beautiful people walking and jogging up and down the paths and that was a Saturday afternoon.  Even the men that jogged past me on that day didn't smell like they had been on a run but had this sweet aroma about them like they had been spraying themselves with deodorant along the way.
Our drop-off completed, we drove to Noosa for breakfast with the 4 kids in tow.  Carparking was challenging at 7.30am and we drove around for a little while before finding two parks close to one another.  Who would have thought that Noosa central was so busy so early in the morning but then obviously there are plenty of people around, unlike me, who rise early.  We did the trawling of the cafes up Hastings Street to find a suitable spot to sit down with our little mob.  We discovered early on that there was no point trying to find a cafe in our price range because there were none.  It was inevidable that we were going to have to take out a small mortgage to afford breakfast here. We eventually settled on Aromas Cafe because their breakfast menu looked nice with kids breakfasts too and we could sit street side and let the kids run.  That was an interesting experiment!  The kids ran up and down the street while waiting for breakfast and I wasn't at all fazed by it despite the fact that all our fellow breakfast diners would probably be looking down their noses at us.  Erin and the two boys were careful to make sure Becca didn't go astray and they looked out for each other even though they were always in our sites.
Breakfast did arrive promptly at the grand total of $72 for two adults and four kids.  Erin and Becca shared two slices of vegemite toast and a chocky milkshake while the mums had eggs benedict.  The boys had vegemite toast and poached egg with soldiers and two milkshakes as well.  Oh and a tea and a coffee.  The eggs benedict was amazing especially the hollandaise sauce but it is definitely something that I will cross off my bucket list and never do again.  There were other children around having breakfast too but they were a miniature of their parents with take-away boost juice cups and standing patiently by while mum and dad talked 'shop' to fellow beautiful people in expensive leisure wear.  Oh how the other half live!
Soon enough, the PT adventurers came down the street looking like a couple of sweaty derelicts.  It had actually just drizzled so it was hard to tell if they were wet from sweat or rain, probably both.  After a short break sitting on the street planter boxes outside the cafe, we walked back to our cars and drove to Noosaville which is on the Noosa River just down the road.  Once there, the dreaded kayak came off the roof and was launched into the water.  The guys went off to find some breakfast for themselves and we mums just sat and chatted while the kids had amazing fun in and on the kayak.  All four of them were in there.  Becca in the front with her floaties on followed by Erin and the boys.  Becca did spend most of her time on the beach playing with the sand or just sitting in the water.  At one stage, she decided to borrow another little boys spade and bucket which I had to put a stop to but she eventually went about her business without too much fuss.
When the guys returned, they had found a $10 all day breakfast lovingly prepared by an Indian family on a street corner nearby.  It had everything in a takeaway foam container.  Bacon, eggs, mushrooms, hash brown, sausage, baked beans with coffee and juice.  A poor man's breakfast but much better value.  By this time the kids were peckish again so out came a pack of potato chips.  Becca helped herself and then would go and sit in the salt water and dip the chips in the water and eat them.  Mmmm......a taste sensation.  Before long, the kids were starting to get ratty after such an early start so we called it a day even though it was only 10.30am.  Wow......I realised when you get an early start, the day lasts so much longer and it had been a terrific morning despite my earlier whingeing.  So I can now cross Noosa breakfast off my list and remember that in future, an early start with good company is worth getting up for.
